Climate Protection

Successful climate protection is one of the major challenges for a sustainable future. We are conscious of our responsibility to the environment and want to make a contribution to climate protection in Austria. Through our environmental management and conscious, careful use of energy and resources we have taken important steps in this direction. Further measures concerning climate protection will be carried out through different projects, campaigns and cooperation schemes.

Climate Dialogue

In the annual Climate Dialogue that has been taking place since 2007, A1 invites experts from industry, partners, politicians, employees from Austria and abroad to discuss the necessary parameters for successful strategy to combat climate change.

Photovoltaic System

In 2010 A1 opened up its service center at Arsenal, which is the first service center in Austria to be built and operated according to ecological criteria. A state-of-the-art photovoltaic system is in operation on the roof of the building.

Telepresence

Telepresence is the most modern and perfect solution to conduct live meetings over long distances. The sound and image quality is of high quality and operates without a time delay. In Austria there are 8 telepresence rooms and 10 video conference rooms that are open to the public. Through telepresence ¼ of employee one-day business trips, totaling approximately 2,000 business trips, can be saved annually. This represents a savings of roughly 150 tons of CO2 within Austria.

Workforce Mobility

When they're on the go, the A1 Telekom Austria workforce goes "green": Through a pilot project to analyze and evaluate mobile communications data, the traffic information of navigations systems was clearly improved. For external appointments e-bikes are available to employees at a number of locations. A1 Telekom Austria's vehicle fleet is constantly renewed and supplemented with natural gas and hybrid vehicles. To encourage the workforce to use public transportation, employees get mobile phone tickets for the Wiener Linien (Vienna's public transportation) or the ÖBB (Austrian Federal Railway) directly and free of charge on their mobile phones. Instead of 417g/km of CO2 (taxi) this only causes 53g/km.
